This restaurant was once what was my favorite restaurant and this was maybe five plus years ago I Ordered 5 pounds of house special lobster and mapo tofu to go. The lobster was way too tough and mapo tofu was too watery probably the worse mapo of my life. Not sure if the chef changed because the food really sucked badly

Growing up in Orange County’s Vietnamese community, Tan Cang was always a staple. Whenever my dad had family or out-of-town guests visiting, this was his go-to restaurant, and it never disappointed. I moved away from OC about 11 years ago, so coming back made me wonder if it would still live up to the memories. I’m happy to say it absolutely does. We ordered the 10 lb lobster with garlic noodles, and it was every bit as incredible as I remembered. The lobster was perfectly cooked—sweet, tender, and coated in Tan Cang’s signature buttery garlic sauce. The garlic noodles underneath soaked up every drop of that rich, savory sauce, making them just as much of the star as the lobster itself. It’s the kind of dish you keep reaching back for because you don’t want a single bite to go to waste. Beyond the food, the service has always been one of the reasons my family keeps coming back. The staff is attentive, welcoming, and handles large seafood meals with ease, making the entire dining experience enjoyable from start to finish. Some restaurants lose their magic over the years, but Tan Cang has stayed remarkably consistent. Great food, generous portions, and warm hospitality make it a p

My son picked this Tan Cang Restaurant, not to be confused with the one down the street, for his birthday dinner with some of the family. Ordered everything from the House Specialty Lobster to French Beef with Fried Rice & Noodles & Vegetables etc. What a wonderful experience with the Owners, Staff and Food! You've GOT to try this place! I assure you, you won't be disappointed! -- revisited just now. Perfect again today for Mother's Day 2026!!!

Tan Cang Newport Seafood is always on my must-eat list when I’m in Irvine! We got there a little after 5pm and luckily didn’t have to wait in line. As soon as we sat down, I noticed almost every table had the lobster—it looked amazing and definitely lived up to the hype. Our recommendations: • Lobster with Yee Mein – The star of the night! The noodles had such a unique texture—smooth yet slightly chewy—and soaked up the sauce perfectly. The lobster was super clean, easy to eat by hand (no tools needed), and packed with meat. Even the smallest portion was huge—we couldn’t finish and brought some home, and it was still delicious reheated. Best part? The price is unbeatable, around $100+ for 3–4 people. • Fish Ball Soup – Simple but so fresh. The fish balls had a firm bite, and the broth had a texture almost like shark fin. A splash of vinegar made it even better! • Stir-Fried Oysters – First time trying oysters this way. They had a bit of that natural brininess, but paired really well with rice. A fun dish to try if you like something different. Overall, a must-try spot with generous portions and great value.

The food was decent overall—flavors were enjoyable, but nothing particularly stood out as exceptional. It’s a good spot for a casual meal, especially if you’re in the mood for seafood. The dishes were presented nicely, and there were a variety of options to choose from. The service could use a little improvement. While the wait staff were efficient, they came across as a bit on the rough side. A warmer and more attentive approach would definitely enhance the overall dining experience. All in all, it’s a fine choice for a simple meal if you’re not expecting anything over the top.
